The Ghost Of Seven Years Chapter 01

The day my boyfriend of seven years proposed, I was about to say yes when a barrage of pop-up comments suddenly flashed before my eyes.
[LOL, the side character is actually crying? Does she really think the second male lead wants to marry her?]
[Doesn’t she know he’s only proposing because he’s drunk and thinks she’s the heroine?]
I pretended not to see them, nodding through my tears.
Afterward, a busybody told me the truth. Everyone expected me to throw a fit. But I didn’t. Instead, I magnanimously forgave Brandon.
They didn’t know I was a “mission-girl.” All I needed was for the second male lead to propose, and my task would be complete.
Three days later, the System confirmed: [Mission complete. Do you wish to exit this world?]
Lying in the bathtub, I smiled, finally at peace: [Yes.]

I stared at the glowing comments, stunned. Instinctively, I reached out to the System. After a quick scan, it replied, “Looks like there was a glitch. I’ve submitted a report.”
I nodded, my mind still reeling.
Brandon, kneeling before me, looked up, a little bleary-eyed from the champagne. “Listen, Eve, will you marry me? Please, say you’ll marry me?”
His voice was slurred, his eyes a little unfocused. Everyone in the upscale bar was watching, a mix of curiosity and knowing amusement on their faces. It was clear they all knew he’d mistaken me for someone else. But I nodded anyway.
Brandon gazed at me with what seemed like genuine tenderness, sliding the diamond ring onto my finger. It glinted under the dim lights, a heavy promise.
Then, someone in the crowd piped up, “Hey, B, you got the wrong girl. That’s Eve, not Serena.”
Brandon froze. His gaze sharpened, focusing on my face. The warmth in his eyes instantly drained away, replaced by a cold, blank stare.
“Eve? What are you doing here?” His voice was laced with a chilling disappointment. Then, a flicker of regret, of something almost like disgust, crossed his features. “Wait, it’s you?”
A few of his ‘friends’ sidled over, offering apologies that felt more like jabs. “Sorry, Eve. B’s had a bit too much. He thought you were Serena.”
All eyes were on me, waiting. They expected me to break down, to scream, to lash out at Brandon for such a public humiliation after seven years. Who wouldn’t?
Brandon, now looking visibly more sober, mumbled, “I… I was really drunk.”
I forced a tight smile. The System’s voice echoed in my mind, announcing mission success. Only then did I manage to speak. “It’s fine.”
Then, to the System, I whispered, Can I leave now?
It paused. Of course. You can return to your own world in seven days. Are you certain you want to leave everything behind here? Leave this world for good?
Yes, I confirmed.
Alright. Due to the glitch, the departure time will be seven days from now.
Seven days. I nodded, a small wave of relief washing over me. Perfect. I had a few things to wrap up in this world anyway.
