Divorced With Kids Now His True Love Chapter 01

She met her husband again after five years of hiding.
Only now, he didn’t have that first love all over him, William looked down into Haper’s eyes, “How dare you hide my babies from me for five years!” A deathly kiss sealed her mouth…
Chapter 1: Mr. Lowe, Your Wife Is at the Hospital for an Abortion
“Harper, the funeral procession is about to start. Is William still not coming?”
Dressed in black, Harper Schmitt knelt before her mother’s casket in the funeral hall. The flickering candlelight cast a ghostly glow on her ashen face.
She glanced down at her phone, the battery nearly dead. Her calls to William Lowe still went straight to voicemail.
Her mother was dead. For seven days, Harper, seven months pregnant, had kept vigil at the wake. And for seven days, the man she’d been married to for three years never once showed his face.
William was a busy man. Harper had always understood that.
“He’s probably just busy with work,” she told herself, trying to be reasonable.
“He’s probably tied up. He’s not coming.”
Tears still stained her cheeks as she tossed the last of the funeral offerings into the flames. Pushing against the heavy weight of her belly, she struggled to her feet. “Let’s begin the procession,” she said, her voice raw and broken.
Her aunt, Scarlett Stewart, chimed in with a snide tone, “Harper, how busy can William possibly be? Not even a shadow of him for seven days. He really didn’t give a damn about your mother, did he?”
Her cousin, Sienna Schmitt, scoffed. “Mom, you’ve got it all wrong. It’s not that he doesn’t give a damn about our aunt. He clearly doesn’t give a damn about my dear cousin. Oh, and let’s not forget the baby in her belly.”
Their jeers were sharp and piercing. A bitter ache spread through Harper’s chest, but she held on to the thought that William had always been a decent husband. He wouldn’t intentionally stay away. He must have been swamped with work.
But just as she convinced herself, reality slapped her across the face.
Sienna gasped, staring at her phone. “Isn’t this William? He’s trending online!”
She deliberately shoved the phone in front of Harper’s face.
Harper looked down. It was a trending video, posted this morning, filmed last night.
The headline read: **Lowe Group CEO William Lowe Throws Lavish Private Birthday Bash for True Love Presley Jensen.**
In the video, a brilliant fireworks display lit up the night sky. A man sat in a chair, his posture elegant and commanding. His deep eyes were fixed on the girl beside him as she pointed at the exploding colors, her smile seeming to outshine the fireworks themselves.
The fireworks were spectacular, but Harper’s gaze was locked on the man’s back.
It was a silhouette she knew better than her own. The man in the video was her husband, William Lowe.
So, last night, he was with another woman, watching fireworks for her birthday?
Harper’s mind went blank. Her body felt frozen, unable to move.
The boom of the fireworks from the video continued, a soundtrack to Sienna’s mocking voice. “Harper, didn’t you say your husband was busy? He’s so, so busy. Busy throwing a private birthday party for another woman.”
Harper’s hands clenched into fists, her mind replaying the image of William setting off a sky full of fireworks for someone else.
She thought he was working.
Even through something as monumental as her mother’s death, she had handled it all alone, terrified of bothering him.
For seven days, he hadn’t had time to answer a single one of her calls, no time to come and pay his respects to her mother. But he had time to throw a private fireworks show for another woman’s birthday.
What a joke.
The woman in the video was Presley Jensen—William’s first love. The woman he was deeply in love with.
And she was just the wife he’d been made to marry. His grandfather, David Lowe, had arranged the marriage to repay a debt to Harper’s father, who had saved his life. He wanted to ensure she would be taken care of for life.
In their three years of marriage, Harper knew he didn’t love her. She never dared to bother him with her problems, let alone ask for anything more.
William was a cold man who didn’t do romance. He didn’t celebrate holidays. His life was his work.
Only today did she finally realize it wasn’t that William didn’t understand romance. He just had no desire to be romantic with her.
With one spectacular, grand fireworks show, William Lowe had turned Harper into the world’s biggest fool.
Harper bit her lip, fighting back the pain that threatened to swallow her. She tore her eyes away from the phone, trying to salvage some shred of dignity.
Her mother’s burial still needed her. She had to hold it together.
Forcing her body to move, she bent down and picked up her mother’s memorial portrait, walking past the sneering faces and out of the hall.
Harper remembered how, before she died, her mother had wanted to see William one last time.
Back then, she had called him over and over, too. He never picked up. Maybe he was with Presley then, too.
Her mother’s dying wish was for her and William to be happy together, forever.
But that was a wish that could never come true.
After handling everything and seeing the last of the relatives and friends off from the post-funeral dinner, Harper sat alone at a table in the empty restaurant.
William finally arrived. Dressed in a black shirt, his handsome face was a mask of indifference. His eyes fell on Harper, and as he took in the scene, a rare flicker of apology crossed his usually emotionless features.
Harper, clutching her belly, looked up at him. The grief and hurt she’d been holding back surged to the surface.
She took a deep breath, swallowing it all down, her expression becoming perfectly smooth. “Just finished with work?”
William didn’t notice the fragile tremor in her voice.
“I had a meeting during the day.”
“And last night? Did you have a nice time at the birthday party?”
William’s brow furrowed. Before he could speak, a woman in a red dress, with his jacket draped over her shoulders, walked in from behind him.
Harper’s face went cold.
“Harper, I’m so sorry,” Presley said. “William was with me last night. My mother got sick a few days ago, and William was afraid I couldn’t handle it alone, so he was helping me take care of her. He didn’t see your messages because of it. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have bothered him.”
Presley’s words sent a fresh wave of bitterness through Harper’s heart.
“Is your mother seriously ill?”
“Oh no, nothing serious. Just a small cold, a little fever. She’s almost all better now.”
It felt like a punch straight to the gut. Harper fought to control her emotions, but her reddened eyes and trembling lips betrayed her.
William’s frown deepened. He’d been in a meeting when he heard about Harper’s mother. By the time it ended and he was about to head over, something had come up with Presley. One thing led to another, and he’d completely forgotten about Harper.
Regardless, he was sorry.
William moved to go pay his respects to Harper’s mother, but Harper stretched out an arm, blocking him. “Don’t bother. Her mother is more important. Go be with her.”
William froze.
Harper couldn’t stand to be there a second longer. She stood up to leave.
She didn’t cry. Harper wouldn’t allow herself to shed tears for someone who wasn’t worth it.
Watching Harper, now seven months pregnant and struggling to walk, William felt a sudden pang of guilt.
Presley had called him in a panic, crying her eyes out, just because her mother was sick. But Harper’s mother had died, and she had gotten through it all by herself.
“Where are you going? You shouldn’t be running around in your condition,” William called out, trying to stop her.
Harper let out a bitter laugh.
So he did remember she was pregnant.
He’d abandoned his pregnant wife to take care of someone else’s mother. It was clear how little he cared about her or this child.
A child who isn’t wanted, who isn’t cared for, can’t be happy.
Harper looked down at her belly. A pained, resolute decision formed in her mind. She walked faster, heading straight for the elevator.
A knot tightened in William’s chest. He started after her, but Presley grabbed his arm. “William, Harper’s grieving. Maybe you should just let her have some space to cool down.”
William shot Presley an irritated look and pushed her hand away. “She’s emotional right now. Something could happen,” he said, his voice cold and sharp. “Go home by yourself.”
By the time William got outside, Harper was gone.
Staring out at the busy street, William pulled out his phone and made a call. “Track Harper’s phone. Find her, now.”
An unsettling feeling crept over his handsome face.
An hour later.
His assistant called. “Mr. Lowe, your wife is at the hospital.”
“What is she doing at the hospital?”
“She’s… she’s getting an abortion. And, sir… she had a lawyer draft a divorce agreement. She’s already signed it.”
A deafening roar filled William’s ears.
His dark, deep eyes were wide with disbelief.
