Project LAND 121 will deliver a networked and integrated capability as a significant contribution to the modernisation of the land forces. The new vehicles represent a significant increase in capability, replacing multiple vehicle fleets that have been in service since the early 1980s.

Project LAND 121 is a multi-phase project providing the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with current-generation, high-capability field vehicles, modules and trailers.

Overall, Project LAND 121 will deliver a networked and integrated capability as a significant contribution to the modernisation of the land forces. Ongoing cooperation with a number of projects delivering command, control, communication, computing and intelligence (C4I) and force protection solutions will see the delivery of vehicles with a generational advancement on current fleet technology.

LAND 121 will deliver around 7500 protected and unprotected vehicles providing battlefield mobility and logistics support.

LAND 121 Phase 3A
LAND 121 Phase 3A (lightweight and light vehicles and trailers) is acquiring a fleet of lightweight and light vehicles for operations in low level threat environments and on humanitarian assistance/disaster relief operations. The LAND 121 Phase 3A fleet will comprise 2146 unprotected Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons, including specialist modules, and 1799 Haulmark trailers. The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons are replacing the current fleet of Land Rovers.



The LAND 121 Phase 3A G-Wagon fleet will comprise eight mission system variants and will be delivered to Army and Air Force units across Australia between July 2012 and October 2016. The delivery of the trailers will take place between July 2012 and mid-2016.

LAND 121 Phase 3B
Defence will acquire around 2700 medium and heavy vehicles along with associated modules and approximately 1700 trailers under LAND 121 Phase 3B. Contract signature took place in July 2013 with: Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia for vehicles and modules; and Haulmark Trailers (Australia) for trailers. The Phase 3B fleet will include both protected vehicles (for operational deployment in high threat environments) and unprotected vehicles for operations in low level threat environments and on humanitarian assistance/disaster relief operations. These vehicles will enhance performance and protection, and the Army’s training and logistic support capability, by providing uniformity throughout the fleet. These vehicles will replace the current fleet of Unimog, Mack and S-Liner trucks. Subject to both companies’ performance, further quantities of vehicles, modules and trailers may be acquired under LAND 121 Phase 5B.




LAND 121 Phase 4
LAND 121 Phase 4 will acquire 1100 Protected Mobility Vehicles – Light (PMV-L) for command, liaison, utility and reconnaissance roles. The PMV-L has been developed to provide an optimum balance of the requirements for survivability, mobility, payload, communications, usability and sustainability.



In October 2015 the Commonwealth entered into contract with Thales Australia for the acquisition and support of 1100 Thales Hawkei vehicles and 1058 companion trailers. The Thales Hawkei will deliver an entirely new capability for the ADF, providing a level of protection comparable to the Thales Bushmaster at around half the weight.

The vehicle will provide a high level of protection for warfighters against blast and ballistic threats, with significantly improved mobility which will enable it to operate in high-risk areas. It is the only Australian protected mobility vehicle capable of being transported by ADF helicopters (CH-47 Chinook).

Secara garis besar, kebutuhan AD kita pun sama. AD butuh beberapa jenis kendaraan seperti Tank, Howitzer Swagerak, Recovery, IFV, APC, Jeep, dan berbagai kendaraan lain. Memang terlihat banyak tapi beberapa negara lain berhasil mengompres puluhan jenis kendaraan tersebut ke dalam beberapa tipe saja.

Australia contohnya, menggunakan hanya 3 tipe saja :
1. Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons
2. Thales Hawkei
3. Truck buatan RMMV (Gabungan Rheinmetall+MAN)

klo kita, sepertinya butuh sekitar 5 jenis kendaraan :
1. Heavy Tracked Vehicles. - Leopard & family
2. Medium Tracked Vehicles - Kaplan
3. Medium Wheeled Vehicles - Anoa ?
4 . Light Wheeled Vehicles - Komodo ?
5. Trucks ?

Saat ini AD sedang bergerak ke arah sana. Semoga pengadaan kedepannya tak jauh - jauh dari ke-4 jenis kendaraan iitu. Kita lihat masih blm ada pembenahan truk2 militer. Berkaca dari Australia dgn RMMV, harusnya kita juga bisa menggandeng salah satu pabrikan lokal yang ada. Truck ini masih dibagi lagi ke dalam beberapa tipe. Dalam kasus Australia ane kurang jelas klasifikasi mereka tapi kalo US secara garis besar hanya 4 tipe yang beroperasi dgn berbagai varian yakni :
1. HET / 10x10
2. HEMMT / 8x8
3. MTV / 6x6
4. LMTV / 4x4

Dari ke-4 tipe itulah yang kemudian dibuat varian Transporter, PLS, LHS, Tanker, Wrecker, Cargo, Van, Tractor, Dup, dll.
Dan Australia sendiri, memilih RMMV karena memang pabrikan ini mampu dan telah membuat berbagai jenis varian truk seperti di atas, seperti Oshkosh-nya US.
