RULES OF THIS THREAD

Spoiler for RULES:

Best International Free to Play Online Games

Free-to-play PC games now offer unbelievable quality. These of the best you can sample today.

Aion
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Aion’s got a good reputation for being a top free PvP MMO, and there’s no denying it looks the part. Combat mechanics have always been something of an issue with critics: things can get repetitive. There’s a bunch of celestial angelic stuff going on here. If you’re looking for the most vaunted Asian F2P MMO around, you’ve found it. There are no subs, no account tiers and no purchase requirements. Get it here.

APB Reloaded
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Few events in gaming’s history have been more spectacularly depressing than APB’s launch, but that was then. Much has changed since the first version appeared in 2010, and the current state is more GTA Online for PC than the original disaster. You take jobs, you kill for money, you fight opposing gangs. The character customisation is amazing and there’s enough back-story to drown in, should you so wish. Get it here.

ArcheAge
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
ArcheAge is an epic fantasy MMORPG free of predefined paths and progression. You can wield incredible powers drawn from 120 unique Class combinations, master over 20 crafting vocations, build houses and manors in the open world, farm, trade, forge alliances, and lay waste to all who stand in your way. Or you can turn your back on it all and live as a pirate, ransacking traders and pillaging the high seas for plunder and gold. Get it here

Aura Kingdom
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Aura Kingdom empowers players as Envoys of Gaia, gifted individuals that take the role of one of nine classes. You will also scour the world far and wide to collect the rarest and strongest Eidolons that fight alongside you in combat. Gather up some friends and take on the best of what Aura Kingdom has to offer! Get it here.

Blade & Soul Taiwan
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Blade & Soul brings the world of Asian martial arts fantasy to vibrant life in this massively multiplayer online universe. Based on the distinctive visual style of acclaimed artist Hyung-Tae Kim, Blade & Soul combines martial arts inspired combat and Qing Gong action in a classic story of good versus evil set against a backdrop of betrayal, revenge, battling factions, and warring gods. Get it here.

DC Universe Online
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
If it’s superheroes you want, DC Universe Online is “the shit”. If you sub you get access to the game’s extensive DLC catalogue, but you have to buy the packs if you’re playing for free. Check out the restrictions here. The major upside, pretty obviously, is the DC character pantheon. Like capes? Get it here.

Defiance
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Defiance is the first multi-platform massive online shooter video game that is also a ground-breaking entertainment experience, interconnecting with a global television program on Syfy. The game combines the intense action of a third-person shooter, with the persistence and scale of a massive online game, while its TV counterpart exudes the scope, story, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic. Get it here.

Dota 2
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Is LoL better? It matters as much as the colour of your pants. Almost 8 million people played Valve’s MOBA in the last month, meaning it’s nothing if not popular. DOTA 2 features enough competitiveness, prize money and shouting youngsters to induce full-blown hippy cold sweats. Probably not for 40 year-olds, but different strokes, and all that. Get it here.

Dragon Nest
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Dragon Nest is a free-to-play fantasy MMORPG developed by Eyedentity. It uses a non-targeting combat system ensuring that players have complete control over every single one of their character's movements. Dragon Nest requires users to advance their characters by teaming up and traveling into instanced dungeons. Get it here.

Fallen Earth
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Fallen Earth is a free post-apocalyptic MMO in which you play a clone striving to regain immortality. It’s completely stupid and a bit rubbish, but this is a massive game with some great action and more than enough MMOness to warrant the download. The Grand Canyon forms the central geographic location for Fallen Earth, which covers some 1,000 square kilometres of deep-fried wasteland. Hardcore. Old skool. Get it here.

Ghost Recon Phantoms
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Ubisoft’s F2P noob mixes trademark Ghost Recon cover mechanics and teamplay with some well considered free-to-play gubbins, making for one of the most exciting free releases on PC so far this year. Get your mates together, form a clan, waste your free smoke grenades and refuse to buy any more. It’s a genuinely good game. And it costs nothing. Get it here.

Guild Wars 2
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Guild Wars 2 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by ArenaNet and published by NCsoft. Guild Wars 2 claims to be unique in the genre by featuring a storyline that is responsive to player actions,something which is common in single player role-playing games but rarely seen in multiplayer ones. A dynamic event system replaces traditional questing, utilising the ripple effect to allow players to approach quests in different ways as part of a persistent world. Also of note is the combat system, which aims to be more dynamic than its predecessor. Guild Wars 2 is now free to play. Get it here.

Hawken
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Hawken is a mech shooter that started off with promises of being The Next Big Thing and then sort of wasn’t. That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth looking at, however, especially as now it’s available through Steam. It’s a bit “please buy a mech I’ll love you forever,” but someone’s got to get paid, I guess. If you’re finding yourself playing Titanfall just for the robot bit, then you should absolutely download it. It’s good. Get it here.

Hearthstone
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
If you haven’t started playing this yet there’s something wrong with you. The Blizzard card battler is available on both PC and iPad, and is far too addictive. The pay element comes in buying cards for your decks, but you can get on just fine without ever having to spend. Get it on PC. Then get it on tablet. Then play it forever. Get it here.

Kingdom Under Fire II
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
This action RTS is the first MMO ever in the franchise and lets the player command a large number of troops to defeat other players online and become a legend. The RPG side lets players grow their heroes and up to one hundred different types of troops. Get it here.

League of Legends
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Yes, is impenetrable, its community is a bunch of dicks and you need to play for thousands of hours to be any good at it in relative terms, but there’s no question that League of Legends has completely nailed MOBA. If you want to see what’s turning “the kids” on these days. Get it here.

Neverwinter
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Neverwinter crops up consistently on these lists, usually as a close second only to LOTRO. The D&D MMO is completely free (although it does have something of a reputation for pay-to-win) and features the ability to create your own dungeons. I haven’t personally played it, but if you’re looking for the best current free D&D RPG, this looks to be it. The Curse of Icewind Dale expansion’s just been released, adding a ton of stuff to what seems to be an already epic game. Get it here.

Path of Exile
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
That Path of Exile is free is borderline criminal. You should have to pay for this ARPG. The notoriously gigantic skill tree alone is enough to download it, let alone the depth of the item combination mechanics and the fact it managed to out-Diablo Diablo III with withering ease. Free or not, Path of Exile is a horror masterpiece, and one of the best games currently on PC. You must play it. Get it here.

Phantasy Star Online 2
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Play Phantasy Star Online 2 and experience revolutionary combat in an action-driven, free-to-play multiplayer online RPG from SEGA. Take a journey into an immersive sci-fi fantasy narrative and explore mysterious worlds to unravel their secrets. Join fellow adventurers and fight against the legions of darkness to banish them from the galaxy. Get it here.

Planetside 2
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
If you’re more far future than flowery fantasy, Planetside 2 is unavoidable. It’s large scale sci-fi combat on gigantic battlefields teeming with players, ships, lasers and death. There’s no charge. The PC version’s success is a blessing for PS4, which will be running it at 1080p soon. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should see what you’re missing. Get it here.

Rift
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Fantasy MMO Rift was a big deal when it launched, but the realities of the modern online game space soon turned it free. Choosing between 40 unique souls allows you to create your own class, with three souls available for use at any one time. Dynamic rift events drop heaps of baddies into the world, forcing you and fellow players to kill comprehensively. If you don’t, the evil things invade local towns and stop you progressing. There’s no questioning Rift’s status as a “good game”. Get it here.

Skyforge
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
In Skyforge, player takes on a larger than life role as an immortal with incredible powers battling to protect their world from the armies of hostile gods, eventually becoming a god themselves.Character progression within the game is not level based.Instead of a traditional leveling format, Skyforge features a “prestige” system, which allows a player to advance based on the sum total of their stats and progression. Get it here.

Star Wars: The Old Republic
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
This is one of the most expensive games ever made, and now it’s free. That’s the way it goes, and the biggest winner is you. It isn’t to everyone’s liking, and has been savaged easily as much as it’s been praised, but that it costs nothing is kind of ridiculous. There are many catches to SWTOR’s F2P, however, such as not being able to sprint up to level 10 if you don’t pay (thanks, EA). Get it here.

Team Fortress 2
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
This has to be the greatest F2P shooter ever made. It’s funny, stupid, brilliant and could keep you happy forever. It’s a great, great game. The cartoon style will never get old and the mix of classes and some incredible map design would make it essential even if there was a cover charge. An absolute must. Get it here.

Tera
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Tera’s a K-poppy MMO, but stands out from its fantasy brethren with its non-targeting combat, skill-chaining and global politic system. It’s standard Asian stuff, really, even though it’s billed as the first proper action MMO. But it’s full-price for free, so worth looking at (provided you can stand the gratuitous Far East boob art). Get it here.

The Lord of the Rings Online
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
LOTRO is the best F2P MMO on PC. There’s no question. It’s beautiful, has a range of content that puts it up there with any of its competitors and sports some of the most robust MMO mechanics in existence. It’s free. If you’ve never played an MMO before, or you’re just looking to pretend to be a hobbit for a few hours, there is no excuse whatsoever. Get it here.

Warframe
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
Warframe is a free-to-play cooperative third-person shooter video game, developed by Digital Extremes for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4. Although the game is free to download, players may purchase in-game currency called Platinum. Get it here.

War Thunder
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
One of the hottest F2P games on PC right now is War Thunder, pretender to World of Tanks’ military crown and a title looking forward to a rosy future alongside Planetside 2 as no-fee trailblazers on PlayStation 4. Armored vehicles, planes, naval fleets, Japan, America, Germany, the kitchen sink: it’s got it all. It’s still in open beta, but this looks to be going places quickly. Get it here.

Wildstar
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
WildStar is a fantasy/science fiction massively multiplayer online role-playing game that takes place on the fictional planet Nexus, where a mysterious and powerful race known as the Eldan have disappeared leaving behind a wealth of technology and secrets for players to explore. WildStar is developed by Carbine Studios, published by NCSOFT and as of September 29th, 2015, WildStar is free to play. Get it here.

World of Tanks
[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1
In the world of tanks, and such a world evidently exists, World of Tanks is king. No other similar game allows players such scope and depth. If you want to roll around in a metal box blowing people up in blown-up towns, this game is for you. There’s a reason it has 70 million registered users. Or is it 80 million? Who cares? Get it here.

[PREVIEW] Aion Online

[D'Lounge] All About Online Games - Part 1

[quote=
aion: The tower of eternity is a visually stunning massively multiplayer online role-playing game featuring cutting-edge imagery, breath-taking environments, and a unique world of fantasy. You play a pivotal role in the fate of atreia, where flying takes on a completely new role and the enemy is not only the other player faction, but a deadly ancient evil as well.
In the beginning, atreia was a single world formed around the tower of eternity. As the first inhabitants of atreia, the "draconic" race, the balaur, became arrogant and powerful. They rebelled against aion, the creator of atreia, and turned into a threat against atreia itself. Hence, aion sent twelve gods to the world to face the balaur and protect the pillar of the world, the tower of eternity. However, the world was devastated after a lengthy war without either side showing dominance.
When a sudden explosion shattered the tower of eternity, the balaur were forced out of simabandha and atreia was split into two worlds that are unable to understand each other again. The divided two worlds become the "angelic" realm, elysea, and the "demonic" realm, asmodae. They are entangled in a bitter struggle to destroy the other side¡¯s remaining piece of the tower for its own greed and survival. In this endless battle the existence of the balaur constantly threatens the existence of the two races and provides a cause to prolong the endless struggle of the elyos, asmodians and the balaur.
In addition, the destruction of the tower of eternity destabilized the energy flow of the world and a realm called the abyss was created. The abyss is a mysterious passage between the two worlds created after the great cataclysm. When the abyss opens up, the elyos and asmodian realm's accumulated hatred for each other is amplified and the reemergence of the balaur foretells yet another big war. Also, secret artifacts hidden from the elyos and asmodians that may allow them to control the abyss start to be discovered one by one.
Now, players who are born as human in the elyos and asmodian realm can prove that they are the chosen ones to become a daeva. They fulfill their mission as both protector and advocate for the higher gods that they revere, and protect ordinary citizens who respect them. In the end, their goal is to become the greatest god and to save the world by defeating the other side, who threatens the eternal existence of the world they belong to.
Feature
* flight
a distinctive feature that this game will have is the concept of flying. This will be a limited [active skill], during which the character will be able to perform various exclusive skills against ground and air players. It will also be used to find higher elevation areas or materials that can not be accessible through walking. Initially when you receive the power of the davea at level 10 you'll receive a flight indicator with a 1 minute timer. Later the game will come out with items to upgrade your flight time.
* game engine
in addition, the game uses the first generation cryteks cryengine. This same engine was used in the development of the first person shooter farcry.
* visuals
the game will break new ground with its amazing visuals based on its use of the cryengine and highly talented art designers whose inspiration came from multiple themes. Aion has a distinctly unique setting which can be described as “dream like?
* character customization
the character customization system will be highly exhaustive; allowing the player to make sure that their character looks exactly the way they want.
* music
the music has been created by ryo kunihiko, one of the world's leading composers of movie and television soundtracks. A sample of the soundtrack can be heard in the background by visiting the official korean site.
* skill chains
depending on the weapon you use, you'll have access to its skill chains. Skills can be purchased from markus (name may change) and must correspond to its appropriate slot in the chain. The length of the skill chain can not be modified.
* pvpve system
the end game of aion will revolve around battles within the abyss (pvp zone). Within the abyss are castles where large scale battles will take place. The game currently does not allow factions to fight within their own. Guilds in control of a castle are entitled to funding from taxes and players within the faction get specials from npcs.
The participation in pvp is rewarded with pvp "points". The game ranks you as you win battles against fellow players. At certain ranks your wings will change in appearance to show your status. Also certain items can be purchased with these points like high end armors and weapons.
* raids
raids will consist of a maximum party size of 6 per group.
* weapon & armor system
the game will feature a system to allow a player to reuse the graphic of the weapon they like and craft it with the stats of another. This adds another layer of customization and strategy by allowing the player to look exactly as they want without sacrificing better stats.[/quote]
