Kampoeng Jazz was first made in 2008 by the Student Executive Board of Law Faculty of Padjadjaran University. Kampoeng Jazz was established because of concern for the accomplishments in the arts, especially music in Padjadjaran University. Also, lack of appreciation in art does not get a place in campus policy makers. In addition, there is no artistic event to spearhead the development of the campus beside the academic subject.
With Bandung being the hub of jazz in Indonesia, Kampoeng Jazz was born. Kampoeng Jazz is a challenge yet a great pathway for Padjadjaran University, particularly for its law faculty, to become the space of jazz development.
Kampoeng Jazz continues to grow each year, with Graha Sanusi building at Padjadjaran University as the venue for first Kampoeng Jazz. Due to the high enthusiasm from audiences, started in 2009 Kampoeng Jazz had to use the whole Padajajaran University campus location on Dipati ukur street number 35, Bandung. For instance we were able to bring many great guest starts from all over the world such as MYMP from the Philippines, Barry Manilow, Tompi, Gilang Ramadhan Trio featuring cultivation, Gugun Blues Shelter, and many more support bands. The progress did not stop there; in 2011, Kampoeng Jazz had Tahiti 80 from France, Sabrina from the Philippines, Dira Sugandi, ESQI : EF, Lil Widianto Fusion, and other support bands as our guest stars. In 2013, Kampoeng Jazz presented Sondre Lerche from Norway as our main guest star, followed by Tetsuo Sakurai of Japan, Trio Lestari feat Fariz RM Indra, Chaseiro, Andien, and other support bands. The enthusiasm of the audiences could be seen annually based on ticket sales that’s always been profitable and exceed the expectation. Each year, the campus of the Padjajaran University was filled with more than 7000 audiences of Kampoeng Jazz.
