Hi guys, I try to review a good picture book for reference reading with families at home, with a little review from the literary side. Enjoy ..!
Benji, Yumi, Origami!
By Emily Lim-Leh
I am happy with picture books that inspire readers, especially for all ages. Benji,Yumi,Origami! Is a story about new perspectives and seeing beyond the imperfect. Benji is a kid who wants to get everything perfect. When he receives an origami present, he sets out, very much by the book, following each step methodically. Benji quickly sets out trying to make paper animals that, unfortunately, do not turn out as he had hoped. "The poor insects really bugged Benji. He sent them flying across the table." The Modern fiction Picture book incorporates cross-cultural elements into a universal story that captivates and warms the heart of this drive, pleasure, and friendship.
Narrative Element and Illustrative Element
Benji is a main character in this story, “many frogs later, Benji croaked, "They're all wrong!" He tossed the frogs onto the floor”, a child who wants to get something perfect. A child who is diligent enough and careful then not easily gives up even though the results are not satisfied. Benji is a good child, easy to be friends, and also a pet lover. Yumi is a minor character in this story. She is little she but Yumi is a creative child, “Benji and Yumi inspected the paper bugs one by one, "What do you think?" Yumi asked, as she placed a toy cowboy's boot on the squashed bug. "Great" Benji said”. And she is also easy to make friends with other people. Benji’s mother and Mrs. Saito is a supporting character in this story, because they are as characters in a narrative that is not the focus of the primary storyline, but appears or is mentioned in the story enough to be more than just a minor character or a cameo appearance. Sometimes, supporting characters may develop a complex back-story of their own, but this is usually in relation to the main character, rather than entirely independently.
From the origami shapes made by benji it has not reached perfect because it must learn a lot to make the perfect origami shape. The most origami made by Benji is origami in the form of animals. Benji always tries to understand from the guidebook how to make origami in a perfect shape. “He tries hard to fold the paper animals.”
When Benji is putting together a building block he hears the bell of the house, and he goes to see it. It turned out that he got a gift in the form of an origami guide. He had felt confused because he had often made ships and planes using paper, without taking long time he immediately made the origami animal. He made so many origami animals but none were perfect. Until finally there is a new neighbor who comes to his house. Yumi also encouraged Benji, and how to see true works that failed through the changing water waves looked better so Benji's work was not bad. From there, Benji gets excited to the point where he keeps making as many origami works as possible in various shapes and sizes. Because of the shape and size, greatly affecting the quality of the origami made by Benji, starting with the gift of a guidebook and encouragement from his new friend Yumi, Benji was very happy and made so many origami shapes of animals, boats, planes, houses, musical instruments with various sizes is small and big.
Benji’s house: Benji heard the doorbell ring and he peered. "I brought over my freshly baked cheesecake," Mrs Saito said. "Thank you" Benji's mum said. "I bake too! I'd love to know how Japanese cheesecakes get so light and fluffy" Mrs Saito laughed. The story in this book takes place in Benji's house, because most of them take place in Benji's house and in Benji's playroom. And for taking settings time is at noon when Benji has gone home from school. Then Benji plays stacking blocks in the playroom. The atmosphere of the story is Benji felt pessimistic when he failed to make origami animals and happy when encouraged by new friend.
This book uses a third person because it always uses the word "Benji, Yumi, or They". Omniscient: third person (he, she or they) is all-knowing in every detail of action, thought, and feeling (conscious or unconscious). As in this story Benji is the major/main character and Yumi as the minor character of the major character, and then both of their parents are supporting characters. And use the word "he, she or they" as the third person in the story.
How the author says something, the choice of words and the use of language, sentence construction, and imagery it is the author's style used as writing ideas story book. Not what the author says, it adds significance and impact to the author's writing. Like the colors in this story are full of bright colors because colorful and bright colors are preferred by children and children are more interested in bright colors in picture books. And then font size or layout in this book always there is a picture below, the writing above and the Japanese language are always on the right. This book uses two languages in writing the story (Bilingual Book), using English and Japanese. Because the authors want to introduce Japanese with English in accordance with the global culture, illustration is very fun and the placement of English and Japanese texts makes it easy to read.
As we know the theme is the main idea that weaves the story together, the why, the underlying ideas of what happens in the piece of literature, often a statement about society or human nature. Benji, Yumi, Origami! this charming and heart-warming universal story of encouragement, fun, and friendship. This story takes issue about Imperfectness, when Benji was not satisfied with the results of folding the origami paper that was less than perfect. But Benji was motivated by Yumi that the results of folding origami paper were not bad, only needed a little improvement and learned to fold origami paper well. Benji is very happy to be excited and new friends to play origami together.
Important of the book for the Children:
1. Helps develop children language by listening or reading this book consciously or unconsciously the acquisition of the language of the child will increase. Increased vocabulary will increase the language skill soft the child.

Hmm.. it's probably too far. How about you start reviewing a novel you like instead? Grammar can always catch up. Context is what matters.
