Sesuai judul diatas, ane bingung dengan gelombang ultrasonik, terutama alat-alat yang dijual untuk membunuh nyamuk dan tikus, setelah membaca artikel di http://priyadi.net/archives/2006/01/...muk-dan-tikus/

Ini kutipannya :

Pada tahun 2002, FTC pernah menyelidiki Lentek International, Inc. yang membuat produk pengusir nyamuk dan tikus berbasis gelombang ultrasonik. Akibatnya, FTC membuat tuntutan kepada Lentek, salah satu inti tuntutan tersebut adalah bahwa produk ultrasonik tidak efektif untuk mengusir nyamuk:
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), ultrasonic products are not effective at preventing mosquito bites.

Menurut FTC, gelombang ultrasonik juga tidak dapat mengusir tikus:
According to the FTC’s complaint, the respondents do not have a reasonable basis for claims that ultrasound will eliminate or repel pests, including rodents and many insects, from a user’s home.

Selain itu, FTC juga pernah mengeluarkan pernyataan lain pada tahun 2001 yang berisi peringatan terhadap produsen yang mengklaim bahwa gelombang ultrasonik bisa mengusir tikus. Disebutkan bahwa gelombang ultrasonik mengusir tikus untuk sementara, tetapi setelah beberapa saat, tikus akan terbiasa dengan gelombang ultrasonik tersebut.
[I]Prior FTC complaints alleged that any reaction by rodents to ultrasound would be temporary at best because rodents become accustomed to ultrasound and will return to their nesting or feeding areas even in the presence of an ultrasonic device. Furthermore, previous FTC complaints alleged that ultrasound devices do not control insects.

Leonard Askham, mantan profesor di Washington State University juga mengatakan bahwa gelombang ultrasonik tidak dapat mengusir tikus:
Scientists would like to find a miracle cure for the severe problem of insect and rodent control. These pests combined would destroy up to 50% of the worlds’ food supply if left unchecked. So, ultrasonics and recently subsonics have been tested extensively in the laboratory and field. These devices don’t work. Animals placed in cages next to the devices continue to live normal lives. If they are paired with the opposite sex, the researcher soon has more mouths to feed.

Lentek International –salah satu produsen yang pernah memproduksi alat-alat tersebut– kini tidak lagi memasarkan alat ultrasonik pengusir nyamuk pada halaman alat-alat pengusir nyamuk. Sedangkan pada halaman alat-alat pengusir tikus kini disebutkan “Effective temporary relief from pests (rats and mice)”. Artinya Lentek mengakui bahwa efek dari alat ini hanyalah bersifat sementara.

Tidak seperti di Amerika Serikat, di Indonesia produsen alat-alat semacam ini masih bebas berkeliaran untuk memasarkan ‘produk’-nya.

Jadi sebaiknya untuk membasmi nyamuk dan tikus yang aman dan efektif itu seperti apa ya, gan?
