Job market turns immigrant dreams into nightmares

Immigrants come to Canada with dreams of a better life. But their job prospects here are often so minimal, that dream sometimes becomes a nightmare.

The statistics are daunting. Nationally, the unemployment rate currently sits at 7.6 per cent. But for recent immigrants, it's almost double — 14.5 per cent.

Professionally trained economists and teachers are resorting to entry-level jobs outside their sector, and often have problems finding even those jobs. Amanda Lang spoke to several new Canadians facing the difficult job market recently.
