CANBERRA - New Australian Defense Minister Christopher Pyne did not accept the newly purchased F-35 fighter jet criticized as being defeated by Russian Su-35 fighter jets. Pyne said he had 100 percent confidence that the NATO pride fighter jet was the most sophisticated in the world.

The minister's comments were in response to criticism from veteran business journalist Robert Gottliebsen, and a former pilot of the Australian Air Force (RAAF) Peter Goon.

Australia paid around 17 billion dollars to get 72 units of the United States (US) Lockheed Martin fighter aircraft.

Goon said he had carried out simulations that showed the new Russian fighter jets purchased by China could overfly and be faster than Australian fighter jets.

While Gottliebsen this week launched a scathing critique of the Australian defense which he said was a massive concealment of his fighter jets. According to him, Australian fighter jets have been obsolete by new Russian and Chinese aircraft that can fly faster and higher.

Pyne said the criticism did not have access to all information available to the government.

"I certainly do not intend to provide advice under the opinion of those who do not know the secret of the same level of intelligence sharing with leaders who advise the Australian government," he said, as quoted by The Australian.

Goon, who served for the RAAF for 15 years, presented a diagram showing what he believed would happen if the Su-35 Sukhoi fighter jet which was recently acquired by China was pitted against Australia's main air asset.
