Lino slams Rizal's statements on JICT

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II chief executive Richard J. Lino has criticized Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Rizal Ramli, regarding his statement about alleged state losses caused by mismanagement of the Jakarta International Center Terminal (JICT).
According to Lino, the minister's statement about the Jakarta International Center Terminal, which is managed by in Pelindo II, was misinformed.
"There are a lot of things [in Rizal's statement] that aren't true," Lino said in a media briefing at JS Luwansa Hotel & Convention Center, South Jakarta, on Friday, commenting on Rizal's contribution to the special inquiry committee meeting as reported by kompas.com.
At the press conference, Lino also released a seven page press release that contained a more in-depth rebuttal of Rizal’s comments.
In a meeting of the House of Representatives’ special inquiry committee on Pelindo II on Thursday, Rizal, while under oath, mentioned several issues that in his opinion needed to be investigated.
Rizal said that several issues at the facility had caused state losses. Among those he cited were: a contract extension before a previous term had ended, a violation of transparency principles as the extension it was carried out without a tender process, extension of the the contract without consultation with the Tanjung Priok Port Authority as a regulator.
"For me, an oath means that we must say things that we know are 100 percent true," Lino said.
Regarding the extension of contract, Lino said in August last year that Pelindo II had signed a contract with Hutchison Ports Holding (HPH), renewing HPH's right to operate the PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) for another 20 years.
HPH's concession to operate JICT, which is a joint venture between Pelindo II and HPH, was established in 1999 and will end in 2019.
