Islamic State militants have beheaded US aid worker Peter Kassig even though he converted to Islam, a video posted on social media shows.
After conversion during captivity, Kassig took the name Abdul-Rahman.
Kassig, 26, was captured on October 1, 2013, by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants on his way to the city of Deir Ezzour in eastern Syria.
He had served in Iraq in 2007 before becoming a medical technician. In May 2012, he travelled to Beirut, Lebanon where he volunteered in hospitals. He then helped in Palestinian refugee camps, “offering his services as a trauma medic to Syrian refugees wounded in the fighting in Syria.”
Kassig founded his own aid organization, SERA (Special Emergency Response and Assistance), a non-governmental group intended to provide relief to Syrian refugees.
His parents, Ed and Paula Kassig from Indiana, recorded a video message in May 2014 appealing for their son’s release.
“As Muslims around the world, including our son Abdul-Rahman Kassig, celebrate Eid al-Adha, the faith and sacrifice of Ibrahim, and the mercy of Allah, we appeal to those holding our son to show the same mercy and set him free,” they said in a statement.
Islamic State militants first showed him in the video of the beheading of UK aid worker Alan Henning, who shared a prison cell with Kassig. After Jihadi John, an IS executioner with a London accent, killed Henning, he also threatened Kassig would be next.

Ia mendirikan Special Emergency Response and Assistance (SERA) untuk membantu rakyat Syria.
Ini adalah pernyataannya ketika diwawancarai dulu;
Quote:
“Sometimes rebels want to know if I will help train people or if I will join the fight. I always tell them no,” he said. “It is of course not that I do not feel terrible for the civilians that are suffering in Syria, but ... for an American young man in my position that would be foolish, and regarded as such by pretty much everyone, including the opposition.
“I can either be in a position to deliver tens of thousands of dollars of antibiotics for women and children, or I can be another young man with a gun.”
Rest in peace, kiddo.
