The Italian company ARIS SpA (Applicazioni Rielaborazioni Impianti Speciali) developed at his own expense a special kit, which increases the possibility of amphibious tracked armored personnel carrier M113 series manufactured by BAE Systems, Ground Systems Division.

The first prototype machine, which received the name Arisgator, was made in 1997 and in early 1999 it was announced that the Italian Ministry of Defence issued a contract for the initial production of a small amount of ARIS SpA. Currently M113 series armored personnel carriers from BAE Systems are in large numbers in service of the Italian Army, and to a lesser extent Italian marines. In mid-2006, it was announced that Arisgator is used by the battalion San Marco Italian amphibious assault. There Arisgator was designated VAL (Light Amphibious Vehicle).


Standard Series M113 APCs fully floating, driven by buoyant due to rewind tracks, with the maximum speed in calm water is 5.8 km / h.

M113 armored personnel carrier was not originally designed to overcome the fast-flowing rivers or running away from the amphibious assault ship on shore.

In order to improve the performance of M113 by ARIS developed a special set of sea to overcome not only the water hazards in operations "ship-to-shore", but also to overcome the fast-flowing rivers.

Set of weights from 1350 to 1700 kg, including the bow, stern and upper blocks; as the base housing APC M113, they are all made of light alloy.

On the machine has been added to the nose of the special shape in order to increase the buoyancy of the car and has two backs on each side aft ramp. Each aft propeller unit includes a hydrostatic drive which is driven independently, allowing Arisgator afloat rotated around its axis.

In the tower can be installed stabilization system that allows you to capture still and moving targets even during the movement of the platform.

Other options include additional reservation system and new diesel engine rated at 300 hp, the appropriate standards of EURO III, which is connected with a new automatic transmission.
