46664 adalah nomor tahanan yang dipakai oleh Nelson Mandela saat dipenjara di Pulau Robben. Nomor tahanan ini menjadi inspirasi Bono U2, Joe Strummer dan Dave Stewart untuk judul lagu mereka.

Lagu ini pertama kali ditampilkan untuk Mandela saat menggelar kampanye melawan AIDS di Afrika. Nomor ini juga dijadikan nama konser yang yang pertamanya digelar di Afrika Selatan, dan kemudian di gelar di negara lain.
