Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his team sailed on the SS Terra Nova to the Antarctic in hopes of becoming the first to reach the South Pole. Unfortunately for Scott and his team, not only were they not the first to reach the South Pole. (Roald Amundsen's team had beat them to it) they died on their journey home from cold exposure and exhaustion in 1912.

The ship, however survived and went on to be used during World War I and II. In 1943, the Terra Nova was damaged by some ice and was subsequently sunk by the US Coastguard.
For nearly 70 years the ship remained somewhere in the icy waters off of Greenland. Then in 2012, 100 years after Scott's fateful voyage, the wreck of the Terra Nova was discovered.

The Schmidt Ocean Institute began testing some new equipment on board the R/V Falkor when they noticed an unusual shape in the ocean bed. Upon further investigation, the scientist realized that they had found Scott's old ship, the Terra Nova.
Despite being largely intact, the remains of the Terra Nova are fragile and located deep in the ocean; thus, it is unlikely that the ship could be safely salvaged.
