Back in late January, DefenseReview (DR) published an article on the new SIG Sauer MPX 9mm submachine gun (SMG) that was introduced at SHOT Show 2013. Well, just as we suspected, SIG Sauer also developed a 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO)/.223 Rem. model called the SIG Sauer MCX (Mission-Configurable Weapon System) for a foreign military unit, and just introduced it at NDIA's 2013 Special Operations Industry Conference (NDIA SOFIC 2013).

The SIG Sauer MCX 5.56mm SBR (Short Barreled Rifle/sub-carbine/PDW/carbine utilizes a dual short-stroke gas piston/op-rod (push-type operating rod) system, and features ambi controls (ambidextrous controls) and carbon fiber tactical handguards/rail system/forend rail tube. There are several versions of the weapon, including an integrally-suppressed version, just like with the MPX. While the integrally-suppressed SIG MCX had what appeared to be a MagPul CTR Carbine Stock folding/telescoping stock, the non-suppressed MCX had a dual-rod telescoping stock.

And that's not all, Monty! SIG Sauer went the extra mile and developed a 7.62mm Russian (7.62x39mm Russian) version, as well! The one we saw featured the aforementioned integral suppressor and a folding stock (buttstock). We shot photos of that one, too (see below).

The 5.56mm guns Defense Review saw sported the excellent and translucent Lancer Systems L5 AWM (Advanced Warfighter Magazine). Good choice.
