The Italian Frigate Multi-Mission (FREMM) general purpose (GP) first-of-class (FoC) frigate, Carlo Bergamini , was delivered to the Italian Navy (ITN) on 29 May at Fincantieri's Muggiano shipyard near La Spezia.

The delivery ceremony was attended by: Tim Rowntree, director of OCCAR-EA; Vice Admiral Alberto Gauzolino, president of the ITN Acceptance Committee; and Vice Admiral Ernesto Nencioni, director of the naval armaments branch (NAVARM) of the National Armaments Directorate. Also present were: Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN), the prime contractor under a Fincantieri and Finmeccanica Selex ES joint venture; NAVARM's UTNAV Genova regional technical office; the ITN's MARINALLES command, responsible for the outfitting, testing, and on board organisation of new ITN ships; and OCCAR's FREMM Programme Division, responsible for managing the contract on behalf of NAVARM. Together, these organisations delivered the multirole ship within the contracted schedule and budget.

OSN was required to deliver the ship by August 2013. Adm Nencioni told IHS Jane's that the fully operational vessel "has completed all required platform and combat system enhancement activities and contractual testing and evaluations, three months in advance of the scheduled timeline".
