Tuesday, June 11, 2013 10:14 AM

Head of the company Kalashnikov Corporation, Vladimir Zlobin reports that preliminary tests of automatic rifle AK-12 currently continue at Tsniitochmash after which it is planned to complete state tests of the product.
Research and production association Izhmash adopts a course at big-scale modernization of the company. First of all, the plant counts on the relevant financing in the framework of creation of Kalashnikov corporation.
In 2013, it is planned to conduct preliminary state tests of the automatic rifle in the interests of the Federal Bodyguard Service and special automatic rifles for the Interior Forces. For the upcoming series of tests the plant is preparing 30 other prototypes. If the tests go on successfully capacity of Izhmash will allow production of 1 million new automatic rifles per year.
The Kalashnikov AK-12 is the newest derivative of the Russian AK-47 series of assault rifles and is proposed for possible general issue to Russian Army.
In May 2010, the prototype model was presented to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during his official visit to inspect the products of the Izhmash arms manufacturing plant in Izhevsk.
The AK-12 has external modifications, most of which are consistent with the modifications favoured by Russia’s specialist, professional military units: Picatinny rails—allowing the attachment of modular accessories, including advanced optical sight combinations, laser illuminators, flashlights, vertical foregrips, bipods and grenade launchers. An improved adjustable telescoping buttstock is also fitted.
