“I’m doing a film with Guillermo [del Toro] next summer, and I went to him and said Warner Brothers have given me the script for ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ but the only way I’d really want to do it is if you did it. And then miraculously he said, ‘Oh, funnily enough ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is my favorite fairy tale, I can’t let anyone else do this, I’ll start putting a team together.’ ”

Hermione Granger actress Emma Watson recently asked fans to submit questions for her to answer via her Facebook page.
She has begun answering a few, and one involves her highly anticipated role as Belle in a live action Beauty and the Beast directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Unfortunately Watson did not have much to say, but maybe that’s simply because Del Toro has yet to get far in the production process:
Q: What’s happening with Beauty and the Beast?
A: Guillermo del Toro, the director, has just finished editing his last film and is working on the script and pre-production for Beauty and the Beast.
This is the first time Watson addressed her involved with the film.
She also answered the following two:
Q: Would you be interested in directing/producing?
A: Absolutely. I still have a lot to learn but I would definitely like to do something like this in the future.
Q: Are there any more fair trade collaborations on the horizon?
A: There has been a lot of speculation about my People Tree collections, with stories running that they ‘failed’ or that I was unhappy. This was really strange because I felt the opposite of this. From the two collections I did with People Tree overall sales were £446,000 which was a huge surprise. The collections generated work for 400 farmers, artisans and tailors! For me though, the most important part of the collaboration was that I was able to raise the profile of Fair Trade fashion which I think I did successfully. I visited Bangladesh to see the clothes being made and spoke with the factory workers first hand to understand what the real issues were so I would be able to talk about them in an informed and real way. In terms of other collaborations, I have decided I want to put all of my energy into my acting career but it was something I really enjoyed doing,learnt a lot from and am glad I did.

Last night, it was reported that Harry Potter star Emma Watson has passed on the title role in Disney's live action adaptation of Cinderella, which will be directed by Kenneth Branagh (Thor). Now, Variety has posted their full report on the news, saying that Watson's reps couldn't work out a deal for the casting, but no other specific details are given. Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) has been cast as the wicked stepmother. Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) and Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina) were also in consideration to play Cinderella, but scheduling/other conflicts didn't allow any deals to be locked. Additionally, Watson is still attached to star as Belle in Warner Bros.' adaptation of Beauty & The Beast, which has Guillermo del Toro attached to helm. Saat ini Disney dilaporkan sedang melakukan pembicaraan dengan penulis Inggris Joe Ahearne untuk mengembangkan cerita versi live-action dari 'Beauty and the Beast'. Demikan seperti dilansir Deadline, Kamis (14/3/2013).
Ahearne terakhir kali mengerjakan skenario untuk film thriller garapan Danny Boyle berjudul 'Trance'. Dengan keterlibatannya, Disney berharap memiliki tone yang lebih gelap untuk 'Beauty and the Beast'.

Film karya sutradara asal Meksiko ini diadaptasi dari sebuah dongeng klasik yang akan dibintangi oleh Watson, yang melambung namanya sejak berperan sebagai Hermione Granger pada film Harry Potter. Di sini Toro akan bertindak selaku sutradara, penulis dan juga produser.
"Kami bertemu sekitar seminggu atau dua minggu yang lalu dan kami mulai mengerjakan skrip dan akan mulai diproduksi pada musim panas yang akan datang," kata Watson ke MTV. Ia juga merasa gugup bermain di film ini karena ia sudah lama ikut casting film ini dan baru mulai syuting saat ini.

"Setelah saya mengirim e-mail ke Guillerma Del Toro, dia langsung membalas, Beauty & The Beast adalah dongeng favorit saya dan bermimpi untuk bisa mengubahnya menjadi film. Saya tidak bisa membiarkan orang lain menggarap film ini dan kamu adalah sosok yang tepat untuk terlibat di dalamnya'. Kemudian kami mulai berdiskusi mengenai filmnya selama kuang lebih tiga jam," tambahnya.
Sampai saat ini masih belum diketahui secara pasti kapan film versi baru Beauty & The Beast memulai proses syuting dan jadwal penayangannya di bioskop. Selain Beauty & The Beast, Emma Watson juga telah mempersiapkan beberapa film terbarunya seperti The Bling Ring, The End of the World, Noah, dan Your Voice in My Head. Sedangkan untuk Guillerma Del Toro, saat ini ia tengah disibukkan dengan penggarapan film Pacific Rim dan Pinocchio.
