Description
The JDS MCL (Multiple Cradle Launcher) is 122 mm rocket launcher system designed, developed and manufactured by the Company Jobaria Defense Systems of United Arab Emirates (UAE) which is 60% owns by Tawazun and 40% by the Al Jaber Group. It is the largest MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) in the world. The design of the vehicle was started five year ago following a requirement of the UAE armed forces to put one battery of artillery launcher on one vehicle. The Jobaria JDS MCY replaces six launcher vehicles as the Russian-made BM-21. The main advantage is, with that type of weapon system you can replace 30 people with a crew of three. The JDS MCL was presented for the first time to the public at the defence exhibition IDEX 2013, which was held in February 2013 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. JDS MCL is a Multiple Cradle Launcher used for close fire support as well as striking and suppressing hostile targets. The Launcher can serve multiple purposes in modern warfare and is able to attack with high volume fire power. The vehicle is in service with the UAE Armed Forces.

Armament
The rocket launcher systems are mounted to the rear of a 10 wheels trailer with four power-operated rocket launchers which is manufactured in the UAE by the Al-Jaber Group. Each launcher has three blocks with 20 rockets each. The whole system carries a total of 240 122 mm rockets. Each rocket launcher system is mounted on a individual platform which can rotate on the left or on the right side. The JDS MCL can cover an area of 4 square kilometer, 2x2 km. The operator can select firing a single pod, a number of pods, or fire the full load of 240 rockets in less than two minutes.

Rocket
The JDS MCL uses a 122mm artillery rocket based on the technology of the Turkish Company Roketsan. The ammunition is supply by the Company Burkan Munitions Systems based in UAE. The 122mm multi barrel rocket launcher is the port-of-call among artillery units. Its fire support mission is fulfilled by indirect/blind firing against area targets. The extended range 122mm rockets feature a distinctive airframe / aerodynamic design and reduced smoke via composite propellant to deliver 100% longer ranges than conventional 122mm rockets. The Launcher can engage any targets by using 240 x 122 mm rockets from a distance of 16 km to 40 km accurately.
Design and protection
The Oshkosh HET truck is fitted with an armoured cabin designed and manufactured in the UAE which provides a protection up to Level 2 (Stanag 4569). The entire system is operated by a crew of three: commander, navigator and driver and can be operated from inside the vehicle in an autonomous mode or integrated in an overall higher-level artillery fire control system.
Mobility
The rockets system trailer is towed by an Oshkosh Defense 6×6 Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) truck. The HET is motorized with a Caterpillar C-18 engine, which is an 18.1l six-cylinder in-line turbocharged and after-cooled diesel power unit that can produce 700hp and 2,576Nm torque at 1,300rpm. The vehicle provides the necessary power to move its 118,050kg GCW (72t Challenger II tank) at a speed of 80km/h on tarmac surfaces and 38km/h on a 2.5% gradient. The transmission used in the 1070F is the Allison HD 4076P, seven-speed automatic with TC-561 torque converter and second-gear start.
Accessories
The semi-trailer is equipped with an auxiliary power unit allowing more autonomy for the weapon system. It allows this rocket system can operate with the truck engine turned off. Ten stabilizers extracted before firing are used to level the platform. A global positioning/inertial navigation system and computerized fire control system are used for position location and increased accuracy. Each launcher cradle is also provided with an independent inertial reference unit, enabling accurate ballistic setting even under rapid salvo firing.
