NBA Franchise Mavericks borught by businessman Don Carter and partner Norm Sonju to Dallas TX in 1979. Last team of Dallas moved to San Antonio around that time and get the name of San Antonio Spurs. League owners decided to have a professional team in Dallas TX and they started to search for the name. The Mavericks name chosen by the votes and it comes from a TV Western Maverick in 1957 - 1962.
In 1980 Maverick boasted a very good team in the highly competitive Western Conference however when we come to 1990's they call it the dark ages of the Mavericks. They couldn't make the play offs. The Mavericks come back to the game around 2000's with players, Dirk Nowitxki, MIchael Finley and Steve Nash with a new owner Mark Cuban. After 2006 The Mavericks started get better and better. And finally in 2011 The Mavericks wear their uniforms proudly and finally defeated the Miami Heat at finals and own the first NBA Championship for the franchise which is the pround of Dallas residents.
The Mavericks home arena was Reunion Arena between 1980 to 2001. After 2001 they started to play the games at American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas TX.
