HTC One with stock Android coming June 26th for $599

Speaking to Walt Mossberg at D11 this morning, Google's Sundar Pichai offered glorious news for anyone who loves the HTC One but craves an untouched Android experience: he confirmed that there is indeed a stock Android 4.2.2 version of the flagship device One coming, and it will be fully unlocked for T-Mobile and AT&T at the solid price of $599. It'll go on sale in the Google Play Store on June 26th, the same date as its $649 counterpart, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 stock edition. The new version of the device -- which will be sold in the US initially -- will come SIM-unlocked, with an unlocked bootloader and 32GB storage. In terms of radios, it will offer quadband LTE (700/850/AWS/1900), triband HSPA+ (850/1900/2100) and the usual quadband GSM / EDGE. Sadly, this means that T-Mobile users will enjoy LTE and EDGE, but won't be able to take advantage of AWS on the 3G side.

There is some give and take involved with such a device, of course; since it's pure stock, Sense-specific features (BlinkFeed, Zoe and so on) won't be included, since they aren't optimized to work on vanilla Android. Still, we're quite excited to see companies like HTC and Samsung embrace the "Nexus experience" and offer choice to its users, and we're hoping this is just the beginning of a new trend.

Update: HTC confirmed to us that the Google Edition will retain the same two-button setup, and they'll have the same functions as before: short press of Home for Home, long press for Google Now and double tap for Recent Apps. The back button will also remain the same, and the black menu bar that plagues third-party apps that haven't complied with Google's design specifications isn't going anywhere. We were also told that Beats Audio will still be integrated into the device as a hardware optimization, but the visual indicator -- currently found in the status bar on the original One -- won't be there.

HTC One with stock Android hands-on

Google and HTC made a lot of dreams come true this morning when Android head Sundar Pichai announced a version of the HTC One with stock Android at the D11 conference. Google's Hugo Barra happened to have a stock One in his pocket, and he gave me a quick look. Just as with the stock Samsung GS4, it's exactly what you'd expect: both the hardware and software are familiar, but it's great to see them paired with support from Google and HTC. You'll still have to deal with HTC's weirdo button layout, though: the home button is on the right, not the middle, and it's a long press for Google Now and a double-tap for recent apps.

"Beats won't put an icon in the menu bar"

Of course, the big question with running stock on the One is how HTC's unique hardware features will work without its software, and it sounds like there's good news: Barra told me Beats Audio will still work — the hardware optimization is active all the time, but it won't put an icon in the menu bar. HTC's UltraPixel camera module is still present, but it's being made to work with the stock Android camera app — Barra said it'll just "do what it does," adding that more details would be forthcoming as Google and HTC work on the software. There's never been a stock Android device with a great camera, and it'll be interesting to see how the proven cameras in the GS4 and One perform without custom software.

We'll find out a lot more when the One with stock goes on sale in the Play Store — June 26th can't come fast enough.

tunggu dlu gan, ane baru inget sesuatu

Makin bingung ane

Atrix sama Galnex newny udah pada gada gan . Trus Tegra 2 sama Qualcommnya XE pernah di adu, overall menang XE tapi XE ke S2, menang S2

Agan pernah make XE ? Share dong kekurangan HH itu dimata agan apa aja
Serius ga semua XE kena deathgrip ? ane denger kata agan selularea di trit sebelah isu deathgripnya tetep ada ._.

Para mastah, mo tanya sori klu salah tempat,
Klu device yg unroot bisa ga diatur schedule auto Power On/Off pada jam tertentu tiap hari ?
Karena setau ane, app untuk full power off aja (tanpa pake tombol power) harus rooted
Quote:Original Posted By BangJalie123

masih bagus kok gan

ane pake cusrom rom + tweak...antutu bisa tembus hampir 10 ribu

apa lagi yg kurang yah selain ram....

mungkin output suara yg kurang keras dan kurang nendang

tp ini subyektif juga sih hehe

kalo beneran jadi keren nih, pengen OS yg lebih update tinggal switch ke AOSP
pengen fitur2 htc macem blinkfeed, zoe tinggal switch ke rom sense 5

Quote:HTC might release AOSP ROM for current HTC One owners

Quote:People in the US looking to buy an HTC One will soon (June 26) be faced with a tough decision – buy One with Sense 5 or a One Nexus Experience (and lose some functionality). But if you already bought one, the choice has been made.

Or has it? HTC is reportedly "examining the best way to support early adopters of the One," so there could be an official AOSP ROM coming to the HTC One. Whether HTC One Nexus Experience owners will be get a similar choice with a Sense 5 ROM remains to be seen.

There's no reason not to – both versions of the phone are priced around $600. That's $550/$650 for an off-contract HTC One with Sense (depending on carrier) and $600 for the HTC One Nexus Experience from the Play Store.

Of course, HTC has yet to officially say that it's working on such ROM, so there's a possibility we're getting our hopes up for nothing. We'll have to wait and see what the company decides in the end.

Now, if HTC and Google (and Samsung too) will bring a pure Android flagship to the rest of the world it would be great (the One Nexus Experience is a US-exclusive right now).
