Controllernya seperti tablet device yang mengintergrasikan fungsi tablet, DS, Wiimote, dan Handheld dengan berat yang sangat ringan dan bahkan lebih ringan dari iPad! Anda akan terkejut pada saat memegangnya untuk pertama kali. 6.5" touchscreennya dilapisi dengan plastik seperti DS bukan kaca seperti iPad, tapi kualitas tampilannya sangat bagus(sama bagusnya seperti TV HD). Jika menyentuh layarnya, rasanya sama persis seperti menyentuh layar. Controller baru ini sangat nyaman untuk digunakan.

Controller ini bisa menjadi layar kedua setelah layar TV. Nanti juga akan banyak game yang memanfaatkan controller ini seperti untuk bermain golf dimana Anda bisa melihat bola di controllernya jika ditaruh di lantai. Bisa juga untuk video chat dan juga untuk menggambar.

Untuk pertama kalinya Nintendo akan menambahkan fitur HD pada consolenya. Dan dari demo graphic di E3, graphic Wii U sangat mengensankan. Nintendo juga mengkalim bahwa graphic dari Wii U akan sebanding dengan PS3 dan 360.

Wii U akan menggunakan IBM Power Processor yang dibuat menggunakan SOI techonogy, sama seperti yang digunakan PS3 dan Xbox360. Sedangkan Wii U CPU menggunakan 45nm sized sama seperti 360's Xenon Processor dan PS3's Cell. The IBM-design CPU for the Wii U does do something different though. IBM ini akan memfitur IBM's embedded RAM(eDRAM), jadi multi core processor ini tidak akan kekurangan data karena bandwidth limitation. IBM juga mengklaim kalau embedded DRAM tech mereka dapat mengkali 3 memory dalam satu single chip untuk "extreme gameplay".

Untuk GPU, AMD sudah mengkonfirmasi bahwa mereka akan memprovide graphic cards untuk Wii U. Radeon HD GPU menjanjikan “high-definition graphics support; rich multimedia acceleration and playback; and multiple display support”.CPU Wii U masih belum diungkapkan tapi laporan mengatakan bahwa Wii U bisa membaca optical media dan juga Wii disc. Ada juga rumor yang menyebut kan bahwa Wii U 50% lebih powerful dari PS3 dan 360

Beberapa world biggest game publisher telah menyupport Wii U, EA contohnya. Dan juga ada Namco Bandai, Ubisoft, Warner Bros, dan THQ
