SHAH ALAM: The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will host the Exercise Pitch Black 2014 starting from tomorrow – Aug 1 to Aug 22. PB14 which has been conducted for more than 20 years, traditionally utilising bases and training areas in the Northern Territory.
The biennial exercise will involve participants from Australia, the United States Air Force, the Republic of Singapore Air Force, the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and a number of other nations including the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
A United Arab Emirates Air Force Mirage 2000 parks after arriving at RAAF Base Darwin for Exercise Pitch Black 2014. The UAE contingent had staged to Darwin via Subang.

Notable absentees are Malaysia and Indonesia. Two years ago TNI-Angkatan Udara sent a contingent to PB12 while we were there eight years ago. Unfortunately, no funds were allocated for RMAF to sent a contingent Down Under this time time around.

Up to 110 aircraft and more than 2300 personnel are expected to participate in Exercise PITCH BLACK 14. This will include personnel and aircraft from Australia:

Exercise PITCH BLACK 14 will feature a number of newcomers including:
United Arab Emirates
MIRAGE 2000-9 fighters
French Armed Forces in New Caledonia
CN-235 transport aircraft.
International personnel and aircraft from a number of nations including New Zealand, Singapore, the US And the French Armed Forces from New Caledonia. Additional support from other potential supporting countries will be updated as planning for the Exercise progresses.
Fielding these aircraft in a large-scale air combat exercise within Australia is an exciting event for Air Force, with the Super Hornet and Wedgetail demonstrating the next generation in technology.
Civilian contracted aircraft, including a Boeing 707 air-to-air refuelling tanker from Omega Air, will also be utilised for Exercise Pitch Black.
